Under the Covers Day 14 & 15

What a couple of days! You know your not well when preparing dinner wipes you out. I have been doing things in inter volts, between naps, and zone out time on the couch. I did manage to get to a few little critters done up for the one a day challenge.

Day 14 – After a hot cup of tea I was feeling a bit better and decided there was no time like the present to give my self some creative moments.

Day 14

Day 15 was full of more naps, and hot tea. I think I spent most of the day under the covers, in a comatose. I did however managed to get a little creative time in. Day 15

I hope that tomorrow will be a better day and that I am back at work. As much as I like the naps and creative inter volts, I do also enjoy being out of the house and chatting with other like minds, not to mention who likes to be wiped out after dinner prep.

Until next time, Keep healthy.

Time goes by

Wow what happened! It has been a long while since I did a post, trust me I haven’t forgot about you. Life has just been busy the past while. I can tell you that I have been working on two new bodies of work… and well I am going to hold on to that secret for a bit longer. But I can tell you it will be worth the wait.

My last post was about the Sketch Book Project, and I can tell you that it is now on it’s way to Europe! I’m very excited to get feed back on my book. So we will wait and see what comes of it, but for now  it can be viewed on the Sketch Book Project web site.

On another note, Studio 113 was once full of four artists but now it’s just two Angela Bonten and myself. It was a bit of an adjustment to go from four to two, but I think that it was a great choice. Between the two of us we have way to much stuff and have filled the space up already, and it doesn’t help that we both have been working on a much larger scale. (that’s right I did say ‘Larger’) If your interested in the studio happenings you can always checkout our studio blog at Studio113.wordpress.com We really are doing our best to stay on track, and will keep you informed of what we are doing, what we are learning and all the trials and errors that come with that.

Ang and my self have a show for the month of May called ‘More Than Just the Surface’  This will be our first official show with an official opening since the summer. I am very excited about it, and will post pictures as soon as it has been hung. This show will also be in conjunction with a Wine, Art and Music Festival in Kelowna called WAM. Opening night will be May 12, 2012 for both events.

So until then I will leave you, and I will post again.

My Studio Mate Angela teaches Acrylics…..

Go Big or Go Home

I may create large images now and then but when I draw I tend to stay small and intimate with my creations. If I do draw large images, paint and other things always find their way onto the surface. This studio Friday I thought I would create a graphite drawing. In order to really commit to creating a large drawing. I decided that I would cover one of the tables with a sheet of paper. I taped it down, set out a lot of various graphite drawing implements. And I began. Here are four stages of the drawing. It’s total size is 21×35.25 inches.

Studio Madness

I have been working in the studio making soul drawings like crazy. I have been testing out different shapes and sizes of things. I do not have any pictures of that madness to show you, but I did want to share how my touch drawings have informed my regular drawing. I wanted to show how sometimes we as artists need to just create, and make stuff. And it is stuff, maybe it turns out to be images that we will only look at for a minute then move on. But it is the random act of trying things out, fooling around that help us to find what it was we never knew we were looking for. Method in Madness, and here are some of my results.

I have also been playing with zang doodles again, still trying to figure out how to create a zang doodle block print. I think I may just have to start carving and let it unfold on it’s own. Pictures will come soon!
