More Than Just the Surface

Wow! An art opening and a Wine Art & Music Event as well!

What an amazing night full of great people. We had a blast not to mention a bit of wine. The night was such a hit that I felt my voice slipping away from me. I chatted and chatted and spoke the language of printmaking. I love to share with anyone whom wants to know more about print and it’s process. What more could I have asked for.

I will speak for Angela and say that I am sure she had a blast! Not only was Angela doing live painting but she also had a graffiti wall set up with a sign that said ‘If  no one was looking what would you write?’ The response was over whelming, a ton of people participated more than once. I am excited to revisit the wall this weekend to see if I spot something new.

Angel and I were not the only visual artists, there were many other artists involved in the event as well. They too had a great time painting and talking and having a little wine. The performers were amazing and entertaining both on and off the stage, there never seemed to be a dull moment. Everyone was full of laughter, smiles, and great energy. I am very proud that we got to collaborate and join in on this celebration.

Thank you to everyone who puts this type of event together and thank you everyone who participated.

This picture are not up yet, but below is a link you can look at to see them soon.

Time goes by

Wow what happened! It has been a long while since I did a post, trust me I haven’t forgot about you. Life has just been busy the past while. I can tell you that I have been working on two new bodies of work… and well I am going to hold on to that secret for a bit longer. But I can tell you it will be worth the wait.

My last post was about the Sketch Book Project, and I can tell you that it is now on it’s way to Europe! I’m very excited to get feed back on my book. So we will wait and see what comes of it, but for now  it can be viewed on the Sketch Book Project web site.

On another note, Studio 113 was once full of four artists but now it’s just two Angela Bonten and myself. It was a bit of an adjustment to go from four to two, but I think that it was a great choice. Between the two of us we have way to much stuff and have filled the space up already, and it doesn’t help that we both have been working on a much larger scale. (that’s right I did say ‘Larger’) If your interested in the studio happenings you can always checkout our studio blog at Studio113.wordpress.com We really are doing our best to stay on track, and will keep you informed of what we are doing, what we are learning and all the trials and errors that come with that.

Ang and my self have a show for the month of May called ‘More Than Just the Surface’  This will be our first official show with an official opening since the summer. I am very excited about it, and will post pictures as soon as it has been hung. This show will also be in conjunction with a Wine, Art and Music Festival in Kelowna called WAM. Opening night will be May 12, 2012 for both events.

So until then I will leave you, and I will post again.

Studio Happenings and My Art of Gardening

So I am trying to be gardener.  Each year I try a few more plants both on the patio and in the ground. This year my friend has given me a Gypsy Pepper plant, Yellow Tomato, and Alpine Strawberries. Yummy! I am so excited to see if these little guys will provide me with some treats. So this is what I have been trying to do the past while, and why I haven’t been updating you with Studio Fridays events.  So let me do exactly that!

Lets see…May 1st was Wam! This was a fun Wine, Food, and Music event in the RCA. I liked that the food that was served was by local shops and it was paired with a local artist’s work in mind. The few treats that I did have were great!  I did not try any wine but I am sure it was wonderful! I should point out that I was surprised by the musical entertainment, as it was a one man band. Sorry but I did not get his name, but I can tell you he was amazing. I did a little performing myself, and worked on a drawing throughout the duration of the evening. It’s a great start to a monotype and I plan to be starting it some time next week. I will do my very best to document the process for you.

May 5th was my Studio Mates Opening. Evolutionary Fugue by Angela Bonten. It is an amazing show and if you find yourself near the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna you should take a moment and stop by. It will be be worth every moment.

So although I have been planting my tiny garden, I have been creating in the Studio as well. Here are some images. All of them are works in progress and may or may not have been influenced by my spring love of growing something eatable.
